Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
In the United States, 15 to 20% is usual at sit-down restaurants, and 20% or more for great service. In much of Europe, Australia and Asia, service is often included or tips are smaller, around 5 to 10%. Check whether a service charge is already on the bill.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Etiquette guides usually suggest tipping on the amount before tax, but many people tip on the total for simplicity. Enter whichever amount you prefer as the bill.
How do I split the bill?
Set the number of people with the plus and minus buttons. Each person's share includes their part of the tip. Turn on rounding so everyone pays a whole amount; the tip goes up slightly to cover it.
How is the tip calculated?
The tip is the bill multiplied by the tip percentage divided by 100. For a 60.00 bill at 18%, the tip is 10.80 and the total is 70.80.
