How to use the countdown timer
- Type hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset such as 5 or 25 minutes.
- Press Start (or Space). The ring shows how much time is left.
- When time is up you'll see a clear message, hear beeps and, on supported phones, feel a vibration.
Ideas for using it
- Cooking, steeping tea or boiling eggs.
- Focus sessions: 25 minutes of work followed by a short break.
- Timed exams, presentations, games and classroom activities.
- Planks, stretches and rest between sets.
Limitations
A website can't act as a system alarm. The countdown itself stays accurate in the background, but whether the alert can play depends on your browser, battery settings and whether the page is still open. Vibration works on most Android phones but isn't available in Safari on iPhone.
Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm go off if I switch to another tab?
Usually, yes, as long as the browser stays open. Browsers slow down background tabs to save battery, so the alert can be a little late, and it may not sound at all if the phone is locked or the browser is closed. For important alarms, use your phone's clock app.
Why didn't I hear the alarm?
Check that Sound alert is on and your volume is up. On iPhone, the ring/silent switch mutes website sounds. Some browsers also block sound until you have tapped the page, which is why the alarm is prepared when you press Start.
Does the timer stay accurate?
Yes. The timer stores the exact moment it should finish and counts down to that, so slow or skipped screen updates never make it run late.
Does it remember my last timer?
Yes. The last duration and your alert settings are saved in your browser, so the timer is ready next time you open the page.
