How to compress a PDF
- Press Choose a PDF file or drop one onto the box.
- Pick a file size: Smaller keeps good quality, Smallest saves the most space.
- Press Compress and download. You'll see the old and new size.
You can also delete pages you don't need before compressing, which often saves the most space of all, and add more PDFs to merge and compress them in one go.
Free PDF compression without the catch
Popular PDF sites limit free compressions per day, add ads, or ask you to sign up for the strongest setting. Here every setting is free, there are no ads and no limits, and the file is processed on your own device instead of a server.
Frequently asked questions
How does PDF compression work here?
Most of a large PDF's size is usually photos and scans. The compressor shrinks those images and saves them at a lower JPEG quality. Text, lines and vector graphics are left exactly as they are, so they stay sharp and searchable.
Which setting should I choose?
Smaller is right for most files: images stay clear on screen and in print, at about 235 dpi on a letter or A4 page. Smallest goes further, which suits email attachments and upload limits, but photos look softer.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
If a PDF is mostly text, or its images are already small and compressed, there is little left to save. The compressor never makes a file bigger: in that case you get a file the same size as the original.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device. That makes it safe for contracts, statements and IDs.
Is there a size limit?
There is no set limit or daily cap. Very large scans with hundreds of pages depend on your device's memory and can take a while on older phones.
